I am an artist from Rayleigh in Essex and love nothing more than to paint from my travels! I would describe myself as being self-taught in terms of the type of paintings and the media I use now. I did study both art and textiles at school and college and although I very much wanted to carry on at degree level, I decided at the time not to, preferring to go my own way. While I was at college I was truly inspired by the artist Georgia O’Keefe and her close-up studies of flowers. I was amazed by the scale of some of her works and had never experienced any kind of floral work looking so exciting to look at. I took this inspiration and created my own collection of close-up flower work, most of which are now sold. I have several pieces at home, which I still find as bold and eye-catching as ever. In 2005 my style of work really changed. I visited the Maldives for the first time and was truly mesmerised by the tranquillity and beauty of my surroundings. I had never been anywhere quite so special, so colourful and so silent and it really did change my outlook on life forever. From this point on I have been inspired to infuse a combination of vibrancy and stillness in everything I paint. Now I work mainly with acrylic as my medium and preferably the larger the canvas the better! I love to travel and create paintings from the places I have seen and experienced. And it is so much more enjoyable to recreate a memory and really lose myself in the setting! I aim to paint something that will brighten a room and radiate happiness - something that has someone walking in and saying 'wow!’ My paintings capture many memories from some of the fantastic places I have seen and experienced and I really do hope that they stir emotion in those that may or may not have also seen those places. I sell many tropical paintings to people who want to remember a special memory or place - and what happier memory is there than being on holiday without a care in the world! At the moment I focus on landscapes such as exotic paradises, skies and sunsets, particularly from the Maldives. I am really enjoying building up this collection and hope that my work really spreads some cheer into the life of anyone viewing it! I try to paint in a simplistic way but still with much depth on stepping back from the painting. I am off to Mauritius in November so plan to spend some time soaking up the atmosphere and hopefully produce some lovely pieces for my new collection on my return. I currently exhibit my work in a permanent exhibition at The Freight House in Rochford, Essex, where 9 pieces can be seen

"Working with nature and the elements is something which has always been a part of my work. Recently I have been taking a step back and looking at my subject from afar, at the patterns and effect this can have on the landscape as a whole. I often use mixed media in my work in order to capture the texture and spirit of the work fully"

Gayle Anderson graduated from Grays School of Art in 2001 with a BA (hons) Fine Art specialising in painting

Following the birth of young daughters Erin and Connie, Jessica has decided to return to her original passion of painting florals on canvas and watercolour paper, for which she was published under her maiden name of Metcalf. She uses a range of mixed media including acrylics, watercolour and inks to create ethereal yet modern paintings which capture the essence of flowers and are inspired by chinoserie.

Jessica graduated from Winchester School of Art with a BA Hons in Fashion and Textile Design in 2000. She immediately started designing printed materials for the textile industry both freelance and in house based in London. Having designed for 7 years Jessica has developed a keen eye for colour and has specialised in floral print. Work was commissioned for names such as Toast by Post, Calvin Klein, Vera Wang and Laura Ashley to name a few.

"I started with portrait drawing, copying people from photos in an attempt to learn the art of realism, specifically portraiture. In a sense, that goal was achieved and I can now draw portraits substantially well. However it was also during that time that I noticed that I was naturally leaning more towards a cartoon style of drawing/illustration, which, at first, I hated, because it didn't fit in with my personal goal of realism. However, eventually, I accepted it, and since then have been striving to better myself in a more comic/cartoon style of artwork and illustration, taking onboard the skills I learnt during my "Portraiture Period", such as shading, use of colour, anatomy etc."

"In a nutshell, the art I create is primarily for my own personal enjoyment, and only recently have I begun to consider the possiblity that others too might enjoy my work, and attempted various successful commissions and sales. Unless you count the compulsory "art lessons" at school, I never really have received any formal art training. However, I first discovered my love for art during my pre-GCSE years at secondary school.

Victoria Brook

We live in a modern society surrounded by modern fabrications, innovative structures and creative people. Colours, designs and modern forms exist when you flip open a magazine, when you see a new building being built or the backdrop of scene from a play. Being conscious of it and applying it to a painting is where the uniqueness comes in. How this is conveyed I can only say is in my style, I just want to create ultra modern, ultra chic paintings, which ultimately lead the way in contemporary art. I believe the value, meaning and integrity of the artwork is about how it is perceived in the imagination of the viewer, rather than the hand that paints it. Her work can be found in restaurants, hotels and bars in the UK and overseas as well as in the homes of the rich and famous. She is sought after by interior designers and private collectors and is currently exhibiting in Belfast.

Maureen Greenwood was born and educated in Dublin and came to London in the early sixties. "I have always loved painting but only took it up later in life due to personal circumstances. In 1988 I gave up work to paint and spent over eight years studying. Following that I set up art classes for adults and taught from home.

I enjoy painting in many different styles and work in oil, acrylic and mixed media. I love colour and working in mixed media using different textures to create exciting effects.

My travels in Europe inspire me with ideas for new paintings, particularly the amazing light you get in the Mediterranean countries.

I have been a professional artist for over 7 years and supply galleries in the UK. My work has been exhibited at a number of art fairs and exhibitions. "
